Ella Tait
Ella is a barrister specialising in human rights and employment law. She has particular experience working in the areas of privacy law, discrimination, sexual harassment and abuse.
The focus of Ella’s practice is on conducting independent investigations, and client advocacy, including helping clients to resolve disputes and conducting litigation.
Ella has held a variety of legal roles in the public and private sector, including representing individuals, private employers, and government departments (as both external and in-house counsel). She has also worked as an impartial investigator. Most recently, Ella has held senior roles at the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the Office of Human Rights Proceedings.
Ella has appeared as counsel in cases before tribunals and courts at all levels up to the Court of Appeal. She has particular experience in cases before the Employment Relations Authority and the Human Rights Review Tribunal.
Throughout Ella’s career, she has been privileged to work with clients, witnesses, complainants and survivors from many of Aotearoa’s diverse communities. She is committed to upholding – and working to restore – the dignity and rights of all people she represents. She brings an empathetic and trauma-informed approach to her work.
