Ashleigh Ooi
I’m a senior commercial lawyer at Dentons and an expert in tech, privacy, IP and consumer law. My offerings include IP licensing and tech procurement.
I’m a Senior Associate at Dentons (formerly Kensington Swan) with expertise in technology, privacy, consumer law and IP. I work with a wide range of local and global clients ranging from start-ups and SMEs, to listed companies and government agencies. My clients span multiple industry sectors including IT and software, financial services, broadcasting and media, construction and manufacturing, health services and FMCG.
I advise public and private sector clients (both service providers and customers) on the development, procurement, delivery and use of technology, including software development and licensing, SaaS and other “as a service” offerings, and IT outsourcing. I also provide regulatory advice on broadcasting, media, and telecommunications, privacy and cybersecurity, and consumer protection. I have particular expertise in commercialisation of IP and can advise on complex patent, copyright and trade mark licensing arrangements.
As a member of Dentons’ specialist privacy team, I advise clients on the privacy implications of new products, services and commercial relationships, as well as more contentious matters such as data breaches, data subject access requests, and complaints. I have a particular interest in health information privacy and our team regularly works alongside our Health Law team on data and privacy matters affecting the health sector.
In addition to the WWLA, I hold memberships with TechWomen and IPSANZ and I’m active at tech industry events across Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.
