Kim Hoods
Refugee & Immigration Law Rōia Hapori/Community Lawyer (Family Violence)
I work as a Rōia Hapori in the Refugee and Immigration Legal Advisory Service (RILAS) team at Community Law Wellington & Hutt Valley (CLWHV). The RILAS team provides service in the way of free legal help to refugees and other vulnerable migrants, as well as to the community groups supporting these clients.
My particular role as RILAS FV Rōia works with migrants who are on temporary visas and experiencing Family Violence. We support them to access a special visa under the Victims of Family Violence category and work closely with community groups and organisations supporting these clients.
My previous and most significant experience to date was working in the District Courts of New Zealand in Auckland and Wellington between 2010 and 2022. I worked in the Criminal jurisdiction particularly in Jury Trials, but have also worked in specialist jurisdictions like the Youth Court at Auckland, including the Pasifika, Rangatahi, & Crossover courts.
