Wendy represents clients before the courts at all levels as well as tribunals and disciplinary bodies and provides legal advice in  Her client base includes businesses, central government and Crown entities and individuals. She is based in Wellington |Te Whanganui-A-Tara but is regularly consulted by clients from other regions.

She has particular expertise in judicial review, having acted for applicants and respondents in numerous proceedings of this kind for many years.  Her wide-ranging civil/commercial litigation practice has included disputes about the compulsory acquisition of land under the Public Works Act, Te Tiriti 0 Waitangi claims, trusts and estates litigation, complex relationship property disputes, defamation proceedings, and companies litigation.  Wendy also has an interest in inquiries and investigations and is regularly engaged as an independent investigator.

Wendy has experience in all aspects of intellectual property law. Since 2016, she has held appointment as Assistant Commissioner of Trademarks, Patents and Designs, hearing and determining disputes about registrable IP rights for the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand.

Background

Wendy was admitted to the Bar in 1995, and was employed in private law firms in New Zealand and England and at Crown Law before joining the independent Bar in 2007.  She was appointed King’s Counsel in 2024 and is a member of Stout Street Chambers, located in central Wellington. She holds a Masters degree in Law with Honours from Victoria University. She graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1994 with a conjoint Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in French Language and Classics.
