Wendy is an experienced barrister specialising in public law and civil litigation and advice. She appears as lead counsel before the courts at all levels.

 

Wendy was admitted to the Bar in 1995, and was employed in private law firms in New Zealand and England, and at the Crown Law Office, before joining the independent Bar in 2007.  She is a member of Stout Street Chambers, located in central Wellington.

Wendy represents clients before the New Zealand courts, as well as in specialist tribunals and disciplinary authorities, and has regularly been appointed counsel assisting the Court in cases before the High Court and Court of Appeal. She also has an interest in inquiries and investigations and is often engaged as an independent investigator. Her client base includes central government and Crown entities, businesses and individuals.

She has been a member of the faculty for the New Zealand Law Society’s Litigation Skills programme since 2009, and its Expert Witness programme since 2020.

Since 2016, Wendy has held appointment as Assistant Commissioner of Trademarks, Patents and Designs, hearing and determining disputes about intellectual property rights for the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand.

Wendy holds a Masters degree in Law with Honours from Victoria University. She graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1994 with a conjoint Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in French Language and Classics.
