My key practice areas are: regulatory, criminal, public and disciplinary. I am an experienced advocate with more than 15 years experience as a Crown prosecutor, and advisor to a range of public sector agencies. I am based in Wellington but accept instructions nationally.

If you are looking for an advocate with specialist technical ability and practical litigation experience, please get in touch to discuss how I can assist you.

Through my experience I have gained extensive knowledge of investigations, evidence, criminal procedure and case strategy. I am able to put this to use for clients and assist them with quality, practical advice, and excellent advocacy.

I am a skilled litigator with more than 15 years experience as a trial and appellate advocate.  I have represented the Crown and Regional Councils in the High Court and Court of Appeal in cases involving conviction, sentence and interlocutory issues.  I have also represented the Crown in leave submissions to the Supreme Court. I have conducted complex criminal cases involving allegations of sexual violation, Class A drug offending, fraud, serious violence and murder, and in applications for preventive detention and extended supervision orders. My cases have included complex legal issues, high-profile defendants, vulnerable witnesses and sensitive material.

I specialise in environmental compliance, monitoring and enforcement. I have been lead counsel in more than 60 Resource Management Act prosecutions and I regularly advise and represent local authorities on enforcement action and appeals.

For regulatory clients I provide advice, training and representation consistent with public sector values. I help them to achieve best practice by providing practical advice in a range of areas including search and surveillance, privacy, disclosure and evidence-gathering in relation to a number of different regimes.

I have acted in tribunal hearings for Standards Committees in the Lawyers and Conveyancers’ Disciplinary Tribunal and for the Complaints Assessment Committee in the New Zealand Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal. I have regularly appeared before the New Zealand Parole Board representing the Department of Corrections.
